My first glimpse of Angkor Thom – I then knew this was going to be something special
Braving the afternoon sun, camera in hand, we all delved into history and mythology and architecture
with ancient Gods for company, we came across some modern ones too 🙂
But there was more to come…as the wilderness parted to reveal more stories…
Stories which were then repeated at night by the “Apsaras”
A wet morning…when we all congregated at Angkor wat to watch the sun rise.
Away from the crowds, we found our own quiet spots…
Climbing a million stairs…
and then gazing at the view below..
enjoying the silence of morning…
enjoying the silence of morning…
before walking back to the vastness that is angkor wat
Naah..this is not a meadow in the english countryside
the drizzle of the morning has faded..the wetness of early dawn is slowing being replaced by a searing heated blue sky….resting at the extremely well-maintained water bodies around Angkor Wat.
The sun is up..i hold on to my water bottle and camera …and brace for the adventures ahead..
But if you thought Siem Reap was just about temples, and that too, famous touristy ones, then you are mistaken…
Away from the crowds, you come across these small ruins in the dense jungle..where time seems to have stopped…
where the river is as silent as the temples you have just visited..
where lotuses thrive in the sweltering heat..and in the silence of the jungle
we walked ahead…there were more treasures to be “unearthed”..
in times far far away..
we walked among stones and rubble..and looked into windows of the past…
among kings and queens, and their abandoned past…
walked on narrow paths, having conversations with tilted walls..
we found a world…that was as forsaken as it it loved today…
where people walked along…along with us…searching for beauty…as much as within them, as what they saw in those walls…
